West Santa Inez

Making use of an expansive slope between the home and pool terrace below, the design incorporates formal terracing, rhythmic plantings and a central staircase that unifies the home and garden. A series of garden rooms dressed in whites, green and silver set in neat hedges, pollarded sycamores and pleached hornbeams provide various seating and entertainment areas including settings for garden sculpture. An existing curving brick wall, designed by Thomas Church in the 1940s, was the inspiration for the curving lines of the side garden and perimeter paths.
